PROJECT "STRENGTHENING OF SENEGALESE HOSPITAL AND TERRITORIAL HEALTH SERVICES" - Tuscany Region- 2018

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

To strengthen the Senegalese public health service in maternal and child health.


SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  1. To guide the professional and organizational behaviors of maternal and child health sector health workers towards appropriateness and integration between hospital and territorial services through clinical audits, training initiatives, both in the classroom and in the field, and professional exchange;

  2. To equip territorial services (Postes de Santé) with basic equipment that is lacking and the maternity ward of the Louga hospital with equipment agreed upon with local partners;

  3. To strengthen the information system through a computerization program aimed at supporting health planning in maternal and child health;

  4. To increase the number of prenatal consultations and assisted births in the intervention areas through awareness initiatives targeting local populations by women's associations.


EXPECTED RESULTS

Refreshed understanding of pregnancy care; 16 midwives from the hospital and 16 from the territory in Louga.

Provision of equipment agreed upon with local partners to the Maternity Ward of the Louga Hospital.

Computerization of activity registers in Louga health facilities completed.

Information campaigns conducted to promote prenatal consultations and assisted births targeting women of childbearing age in Louga.

Nutritional products provided to children at risk of malnutrition in Louga.


ACTIVITIES

  • Conducting professional exchange meetings in the field in Louga on the hygiene of health facilities.

  • Conducting a refresher course in Louga for 16 hospital midwives and 16 territorial midwives on identifying pregnancy risk factors (hemorrhage, dystocia, high blood pressure, etc.) and reproductive health (contraception, ANC, etc.).

  • Purchase and supply of appropriate equipment for pregnancy risk assistance and obstetric emergencies identified with local partners to the Louga Hospital.

  • Introduction of software for computerization of activity registers into Louga health facilities (hospital, CdS, and 5 PdS).

  • Support to the Association of Traditional Healers (AMPHOT) of Louga for the production of nutritional products for children at risk of malnutrition.

  • Implementation of an informational campaign - through radio messages, meetings, and material distribution - to promote ANC and assisted delivery and to prevent pregnancy risk factors among women of childbearing age in Louga.
