The intervention represents the implementation of the "Country Project" for the Democratic Republic of Congo by Tuscan healthcare actors operating in the African country for the year 2014. This intervention is part of the path of international health cooperation actions of the Tuscany Region. In particular, ASL 5 of Pisa (lead partner) and ASL 1 of Massa Carrara, which carry out healthcare cooperation interventions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have worked to identify a common and coordinated intervention scope following the positive experiences of the 2013 "Health, care, and assistance" country project.

The proposed project aims to improve the conditions of healthcare centers in two areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the Municipality of Mont’Ngafula Mbudi – Kinshasa City and the Hospital Center of the village of Muhanga, Lubero area, Butembo district, North Kivu.

The activities planned in the project are related to the restructuring of the outpatient area and reception facilities for young patients benefiting from physiotherapy activities at the Rehabilitation Center of the Viviane Foundation; the restructuring of the Hospital Center (small surgery outpatient clinic) of Muhanga, located in the Butembo territory, in North Kivu, and the implementation of a training course for "Operating Room Nurses," accredited and recognized, aimed at a nursing operator of the Muhanga Hospital Center, and a training course for 5 orthopedic technicians and 5 socio-health operators on the topic of "Orthopedics."
At the end of the project, a protocol will be drawn up identifying criteria (both clinical and logistical and social) useful for triaging cases to be treated on an outpatient basis and cases requiring residential treatments. The DICA ETS Association, as a technical partner, supports the lead partner Usl5 and the Tuscan partnership in the technical management of the project.
